There are jobs for teachers in Thailand government and private international schools all year round, although the academic year starts in August until the following June.  You, as a person should, for your own benefit get on with people at all age groups. When you are not preparing lessons, marking and in the classroom, experience what Thailand has to offer culturally, cuisine, people, cities and countryside.

Teaching without a degree (No chance now), TEFL or other language qualification has become difficult with schools and visa requirement changes. One option is to join one of the larger language schools that offer training on the job with TEFL certificate and qualification and a wage while living & working in Thailand.

You would gain experience, be in an actual job and earning at the same time, although not as much as an experienced language teacher.  With this experience and qualification you could apply for a English as a second language teaching position in a state school when advertised.


Teaching in Thailand

Qualified school teachers from Australia, South Africa, United States, UK and other countries have the option to apply for Thailand international schools jobs or the state government sector education. You would be teaching your own specialist subject at kindergarten/nursery, primary or secondary/high school to children from 3 to 18 years old.

  • Salary per month: 30,000-90,000 Baht, depending on experience and qualifications

Requirements for a teacher in Thailand

  • BA/BSC and above bachelor degree in the subject
  • Qualified teacher status from your own country
  • Native or near native English speaker for English subject teachers
  • 2 + years experience, although some British schools employ newly qualified teachers (Check NQT requirements)
  • Clean criminal record background. UK residents must be from Acro here for residency
  • Preference for western trained teachers from Canada, US, South Africa, Ireland, Australia and UK, not always
  • Degree transcripts for some state and international schools
  • In good health

Thailand language teacher school jobs

One of the more popular countries for travellers and teachers.  The jobs market has become more competitive to secure a language teachers job in Thailand. Government public schools in Thailand also offer English as a second language teacher positions that can be found in the popular cities of Bangkok, Chang Mai and Phuket.  Also consider close proximity to populated areas with convince of travel and local entertainment.

You would be teaching English at a state school or international schools to children between 3-18 years, although you will generally require prior experience of teaching children.

Without an undergraduate degree, TEFL or other language qualification a teacher’s post is out of your grasp.  You have no chance at an international or state government school. Schools and visa requirements are fairly strict on who qualifies and rightly so..


Thailand language teacher salaries in school: full time 20,000-35,000, depending on experience and employer.


Language teachers of English requirements

  • Bachelor degree and above with or without TEFL, TESOL or similar language qualification
  • Native English speaker. A few employers will consider near native language speakers of English
  • Other requirements for work and residency permits as basically the same as a school teacher above


Living in Thailand
