Starting an MBA After Job Experience

Majority of people once old enough secure a job that interests them or necessity to provide finances to pay living expenses.

Many of today’s higher paying jobs or work opportunities in America or UK are offered to people with certification or qualifications making them skilled for the job role or offer a company advanced knowledge and thinking.

Can I do an MBA after getting a job?

Universities have a range of business courses they provide for full time students or people working looking to do an MBA after getting a job. Indeed, being accepted onto an MBA course generally requires 3+ years work experience.

Study mode course options

  • Part time where students attend in class lessons during weekends or evenings each week throughout the academic year.
  • Blended learning study by a combination of in class intensive lessons and online learning from home.
  • Distance & online learning accessing course materials through the internet where you complete set study & assignments at home at your own pace.
  • Full time from as short as 12-18 months intensive study in class, although only viable if you have a part time or causal job you can work when not in class.

Course start dates are around September/October or January for blended learning/part time and online & distance learning, where universities in UK or USA let you start any time of the year.

People that work part or full time have less opportunity for studying, and require arranging time in they’re busy weekly schedule to attend face to face classes.

My personal experience studying for a business management master’s degree while working meant me being constantly motivated, committed and organized in my daily tasks.

Balancing work & study for 2-4 years takes commitment to succeed both at work, and study achieving a good pass grade.

Finance tuition fees

Postgraduate management qualification tuition fees & living expenses are a significant outlay for many of us, and can put a strain on a person’s finances if no regular income or substantial savings are in place.

The part time course I was on in London. UK some MBA students companies they work for paid the entire course tuition costs, although expect to self fund your own study, which will be in the 1000’s.

Admission to MBA courses

In both UK and USA you can study on an MBA course using prior work experience & empathizing you’re dedication to succeed as evidence to gain admission.

Majority of MBA courses require students to have graduated from an accredited university with at least an undergraduate degree or similar equivalent qualification.

Another option is completing the qualification in stages starting at certificate first then diploma stage, and then transfer credit to finish the master degree qualification.

You don’t require any business qualification for admission to American or British business school studying a master of business administration (MBA), just industry experience in work.

Benefits of MBA after in a job

Starting an MBA course after gaining job experience means you can study part time & combine academic business theory & you’re work experience from a present job to benefit you each month on the course.
Once a student has enough business knowledge they can apply the learning from the MBA course to a job enacting change at work as they learn benefiting a persons career and company alike.
All types of MBA’s focus on student’s real world work experience from different industries by using case studies & scenarios to discuss in class, as well as questions & answer sessions with lecturers.
You are already in a job where you can apply the course learning. Basically, once completing the qualification you’ll not suddenly find yourself trying to find an appropriate job role you wish for career progression.
Gain promotion from graduate trainee or junior manager to senior management with an MBA and the learning & skills is possible with you’re present company.
The qualification is a highly useful & recognizable graduate degree in business management making you standout for promotion with years of industry work experiences as well.
Master of business administration after a job can lead to you receiving a higher salary in you’re present job role as recognition by an employer of skills & knowledge you bring to the company.
Able to move jobs or a full career change to work in another employment role utilizing all the work experience, management knowledge and academic learning from prior degree study in a specialist filed.
General & specialist MBA’s you can choose today offered by universities in America & United Kingdom can be used to gain a management, analyst, consulting or other role in a range of industries.
You will have the required work experience that helps with university admission criteria.

Disadvantage of obtaining an MBA after in a job

Certain job roles are offered to young graduates and experienced managers that are recruited with an MBA on they’re resume, so you might require changing employers to get a promotion or higher skilled job.

While in an existing job role you’re already working, and was hired by the organization on past experience & qualifications.  You could be passed over for a managerial role or opportunity to use the MBA knowledge at work with a company hiring a new person externally for the role.

Negotiating & receiving a meaningful salary increase at work is not always forthcoming each year.  Even after graduating with you’re MBA & specialist business management knowledge doesn’t mean you’ll receive a pay rise.

You don’t have advanced managerial skills and business knowledge to be offered a department head or company leadership position.

Once taking a job in an organization in a junior seniority capacity the employer may not give an employee a middle or senior management position with a postgraduate business management qualification.

Basically, a company could think you don’t have advanced managerial skills and business knowledge to be offered a department head or company leadership position, so no promotion prospects with a present employer.
