Moving Checklist

Teachers, lecturers and trainers in education also move property and country and have a moving checklist.  Sending more bulky items by sea takes much longer than air travel.  Each person or family moving to another area in their own country or to another country will have different criteria when writing their moving checklist when it comes to arranging their move from one location to another.  The following is a moving checklist for you to think about with some items that require attention well before your move and of course the moving checklist is not exhaustive.  When deciding to move and know when you are moving a moving checklist can be compiled in time and by priority order.

Create a plan with a moving checklist of what you require to do, how and time deadlines.

Research and apply for all relevant paperwork such as planning permission, visa, work and immigration permits.

Calculate how much the move will cost and decide if you have enough.

Get several moving quotes from reputable companies, and you could hire your own van and driver.

Think about the entire family including rover and other animals.

Sending items overseas or long distance by sea many take weeks or even months to be delivered that you my require immediately when you arrive.

Start looking for new places too stay.

Apply for a new job.

Contact schools in the new area.

Research and purchase travel tickets when you know you are moving.

Few Weeks Before

Possibly inform everyone you know that you are moving and where you are going.

Decide what belongings you are taking.

Arrange a boot fair, garage sale or sell off items that you are not taking with you.

Start giving away to friends or charity items you are leaving behind.  Not a good idea to leave this to the last few days.

Arrange with the moving company all the details for a smooth move on the day.  Receive packaging materials from the moving company.

Cancel insurances, water rates, telephone, internet, sports club subscriptions and standing orders at the company and your bank.

Notify your employer of you notice.

Inform your doctor that you are moving and arrange for your medical records to be transferred.

Measure the new property dimensions to see what items will fit or even go through the door or window.

Contact schools and ask to have student records transferred or a copy if applying for a new school position.

Shortly Before

Post office change of address form filled in that will enable your mail to be forwarded to your new address.

Start or continue informing clubs, insurance companies and investment companies of a proposed change of address.

Arrange for your utilities to be cut off at your present address and connected at your new property.

Notify banks, credit card companies and other related companies of your proposed move and your new address.

Begin packing and continue to arrange your possessions.

Start cleaning and tidying up your home and property.

Package all non essential day to day items carefully.  Mark each box or container with a list of contents and or by room.

Pay all outstanding bills.

Defrost the fridge.

Confirm with the moving company, details and number of boxes.

Animal transportation conformation and check each animal that is able to endure transportation and a move.

Close bank accounts if no longer required or will be used.

Moving Day

Start early and have all the items packaged to be moved ready to be loaded onto transport.

Check with the moving company the names of the people transporting your possessions.

Turn off all utilities.

Check outside area for any wanted items and around the property.

Make sure you leave the property clean and tidy.

Mention to the moving company about fragile items.

Check all items are being loaded onto the moving truck or in cars or other transport.

One list check of the entire property to check for any wanted items, breakages, and leaving the property securely locked.

Pass key to another person if required.

Double check with the moving company the delivery address for your items.

Arriving at your new location

Check utilities are connected or asked in advance.

Supervise the moving company taking your items into your new property.

Spare keys cut.

Check and count all boxes have arrived and all your items are present.

Within a few days of arrival registrar for the voting register, dentist, doctor, change driving licence and many other details and documentation that require to be change.
