Straight factual information on a criminal record check for the United Kingdom (UK). Many UK education recruitment agencies and job listing websites have jobs advertised for the UK and for education and teaching jobs abroad where that state “You must have an up to date CRB” A few agencies when I inquired in the past about a teaching position they have not even heard of Disclosure Scotland or Access Northern Ireland.
I personally know of three education agencies that are stating to overseas employers a CRB is the criminal record check for the UK. Well, there is no information listed anywhere to state any of the three disclosures should not be accepted in any part of the UK and for teaching abroad.
Advertising a teaching or education post for people from the UK and stating “Must have a CRB” is tantamount to discrimination as Northern Ireland and Scotland are part of the UK. Why do many agencies only accept a CRB for their posts in the UK and abroad?
Disclosure Scotland
When a classroom teacher applies for a teaching position in Scotland and that person is successful the school or college applies for an “Enhanced Disclosure” from Disclosure Scotland, which is the country criminal records checking service run by the Scottish government.

Criminal Records Bureau
In England and Wales people working in vulnerable areas and working with students are asked for a CRB. How can anyone supply a CRB! A CRB stands for Criminal Records Bureau, an organisation run by the Home Office that checks a person’s background. An Enhanced Disclosure is required for working in schools, college and similar.
