As an advanced degree a Masters in education provides additional skills, knowledge and a greater insight into a specialist area of education. Becoming required by more employers a Masters in education is a requirement for new teachers in primary and secondary schools, especially management and specialist roles. The UK government is evolving education at all levels and teachers, lecturers and other people in education could gain an advantage in the possession of a Masters in education.

Maters in education (MEd) traditional general advanced degree.

Specialist masters degree that could confer a Med or MA in learning & teaching, leadership & management and international education or others.

 

What Will I Learn?

Everyone that studies for a Masters in education (MEd) complete core training and academic  courses and then specialises in a certain area of education offered by the course provider.  A dissertation is normally required to be written and possible formal lesson delivery depending on your course and of course completing the written assignments for each course subject.

After successfully completing a Masters in education you should be equipped with the ability:

  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of practices, processes and learning outcomes  of learning, assessment and teaching.
  • Analyse educational issues and put into practice a research led approach to education and teaching.
  • Apply advance research methods.
  • Critically analyse education issues.

Gaining a place on a Masters of education course the normal requirements include have successfully completed initial teacher training and possible qualified teacher or lecturer.

Credit Transfer

Transfer credit could be available from many universities.

Teachers and lecturers in an education position can have their fees paid.  Self funding: students or people looking to complete a Masters in education that are not in an educational role.
