At the early stage of education an early year’s pgce is available as a teaching qualification for early year’s learners.  An early year’s pgce course is a rigours pgce course that is studied over one academic year to teach nursery and infant children from 3-7 years old.

Learn how to effectively assess children’s progress.

Train to teach and manage behaviour for early year’s children.

Learn and build teaching and learning strategies as well as planning.

 

Initially, you start an early year’s pgce at university learning the basics before going on two teaching placements in an infant school nursery to complete your early year’s pgce.  The one year (Full time) academic early years pgce course provides an overall teaching and learning base for a perspective teacher at early years to gain an approved qualification.  In general, four days is spent on teaching place meant and one day a week is spent at university for an early year’s pgce.  The day spent at university extends learning and discussion to usefully complete your early year’s pgce. While on the two teaching placements as part of an early year’s pgce you will be assigned a mentor that will assist you will building teaching, learning, behaviour skills for early year’s learners.

As part of the assessment for an early year’s pgce the completion of assessed teaching and assignments require to be completed and a portfolio of evidence also required to be handed in at the end of your early year’s pgce course.

Successful completion of an early year’s pgce and passes in assessed test lead to being a qualified teacher status.

 

Early Years Pgce Entry Requirements

A number of checks such as for a criminal record, medical check and a full personal interview at university are part of the entry checks for an early year’s pgce course.

 

Standard entry requirements

Good undergraduate degree

At least a C grade in English, Science and mathematics

Possible experience with early year’s children or learning

Early year’s pgce courses are popular and places at university become filled up quickly.  At present there is a demand for early year’s pgce trained teachers in the UK and teaching abroad.  Studying on an early year’s pgce attract a non means tested bursary and fees paid by the UK government.
