Teaching Dubai

Dubai is a popular destination for tourists, sports fans, academics and for teachers looking to experience teaching in Dubai.  A fairly large city there is public transport, although you can drive with the correct local driving licence.  When teaching in Dubai all teachers and academics receive two days off: Friday and Saturday.  Schools start early and most schools expect you to be in school by 7am.

 

Teaching in Dubai Opportunities

University: There is a fair few university campuses opening up where you can obtain a lecturing or management post.

College: Post school age teaching academic or vocational subjects.

International Schools: Many schools have opened to accommodate local and international students offering a range of curriculum’s from different countries from nursery to sixth form.

State Schools: Local schools for pupils from the Dubai area.

Language Schools: Teaching English or another language.

Teaching in Dubai you can work for government organisations or education companies contracted by the government who advertise education jobs and teaching jobs for schools, colleges and universities.

 

Requirements for Teaching in Dubai

Each organisation will have its own separate requirements, although many of the same legal and desired requirements are the same including appropriate education qualifications for the position you are applying.

The following is common for teaching jobs and lecturing positions for teaching in Dubai: Key: R = Legal requirement

  • Police clearance certificate (Enhanced Disclosure) from your home country dated with past 6 months. R
  • Certified and attested qualifications. R
  • Native English speaker applying for positions delivered in English. R
  • Degree in the subject you wish to teach.
  • Qualified to teach that age range.
  • Certificate to teach English as a second language, or a degree in English if teaching English in a training centre, college or university.
  • Pass a medical, obtain a work and residency permit to stay and work. R
  • Contracts from 6 months to 3 years that can be renewable. R

There are some schools that will employ you without a teaching certificate and not your age range, although to obtain a teaching permit and residence you basically require what the government legally requires you to have for teaching in Dubai.

 

Accommodation

All international schools, college and universities and other state education providers supply single or shared accommodation.  The accommodation ranges in size and standards depending on your employer, and many places for teachers and lecturers are a distance away from your organisation. An accommodation allowance is also payable instead of providing accommodation, although renting is expensive in Dubai.
